The Consular Office has an opening for the position of Consular Investigator. The position will be available immediately.

Basic Function:

Serves as the Senior Local Consular Investigator in the Fraud Prevention Unit with post having jurisdiction of East African Region in DV/IV Visa adjudications. Provides advice and guidance on all investigative and local legal issues to consular officers. Serves as the primary contact for host government law enforcement officials. Conducts investigations into various types of American citizen, non-immigrant, and immigrant visa fraud and related consular matters, including investigations requested by the Department of State and other U.S.-based federal agencies, such as the USCIS. Supervises the consular fraud assistant.

Qualifications Required:

  • A university degree in Social Sciences or Law Enforcement is required
  • Minimum of four years experience in law or investigative agency such as a military, judicial, private security claims investigation or fraud preventive program work is required.
  • Level IV (fluent) English ability and Level IV (fluent) Kiswahili ability are required.
  • Must have basic knowledge of Kenyan laws relating to immigration, adoption, legitimization and understanding of visa requirements.
  • Must have strong computer skills on Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.


Selection Process:

WHEN EQUALLY QUALIFIED, U.S. CITIZEN ELIGIBLE FAMILY MEMBER (USEFMs) AND U.S. VETERANS WILL BE GIVEN PREFERENCE. THEREFORE, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE CANDIDATES SPECIFICALLY ADDRESS THE REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS ABOVE IN THE APPLICATION.

Additional Selection Criteria:

  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
