Radio Optimization Technician at JTL (Mombasa)

We are seeking to recruit a qualified 4G Radio Optimization Technician to install and maintain our 4G equipment.

RADIO OPTIMIZATION TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installation of 4G microwave radios, LTE equipment and other equipment in tower sites;
  • Doing Physical acceptance Tests of newly installed equipment sites;
  • Work with contractors to install/service LTE sites;
  • Strictly enforce HSE regulations in the region of operation for both JTL internal staff and contractors;
  • Replacing radio equipment in rooftops sites and in towers;
  • Power maintenance e.g. DEG, rectifier, battery checks;
  • Doing periodic maintenance of Telecomunications equipment;
  • Periodic maintenance of tower and rooftop infrastructure for rust and earthing quality;
  • Assist team in performing network upgrades when required;
  • Assist team in supervising contractors when required;
  • Perform site visits and site surveys;
  • Perform network drive tests when required;
  • Documentation and generation of reports as and when required.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE RADIO OPTIMIZATION TECHNICIAN JOB:

  • Diploma in Electrical and Electronic engineering with at least three (3) years working experience;
  • Experience and Knowledge of 4G microwave radio installation, commissioning and maintenance;
  • Knowledge of LTE/GSM equipment installation, commissioning and maintenance; Certification on this is an added advantage;
  • Possession of a valid fall arrest certification with at least one year to expiry;
  • Training in HSE and DOSH regulations;
  • Be physically and mentally fit.

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Senior Engineer - RAN Configuration & Support

Ref: TECHNOLOGY_SERCS__OCT _2012

Reporting to the Senior Manager: Configuration & Support, the position holder will be responsible for

  • Providing long term RAN system configuration and support; 
  • On callout for 24 hours daily; 
  • Providing 2nd line support to RAN system faults escalated from first line maintenance; 
  • Interface with the supplier of the RAN equipment and follow up on escalated problem; 
  • RAN subsystem upgrades and major network configuration changes;
  • Develop tools for automation and speed up the support processes

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:

  • Ensuring RAN systems (GSM, UMTS) and NEs continuously perform within or exceed KPIs;
  • Ensuring RAN systems and operational availability to support customer traffic;
  • Resolution of faults escalated from 1st Line maintenance teams within SLAs;
  • Ensuring all newly integrated RAN equipment follow & adhere to the laid down acceptance criteria;
  • Perform configuration changes on RAN Network elements & S/W upgrades to meet network KPIs;
  • Analyze network KPIs, logs and warnings and initiate corrective measures to resolve complaints and faults.
  • The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:
  • 3 years working experience in Telecommunications with at least 2 years’ experience in a GSM (RAN) Environment;
  • Relevant Nokia /Huawei/Ericsson training and experience will be an added advantage;
  • Good understanding of 2G and 3G telecom networks i.e. elements, protocols, services, configuration etc.;
  • Good understanding of Software Upgrades, First Node Implementation, Feature Activations;
  • Experience in IuB over IP and HSDPA offload will be an added advantage;
  • Good working practical knowledge & understanding of RAN;
  • Good working knowledge of UNIX, Linux, Windows, Oracle and SQL based database systems;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools;
  • Analytical & problem solving skills when handling faults;
  • Must be able to work without supervision & meet tight deadlines/schedules;
  • Presentation skills required occasionally when initiating the use of new procedures & long-term Network fault solutions;
  • Proactive & self-motivated;
  • Good public relations, communication & interpersonal skills when coordinating with contractor /other departments & suppliers;

Senior Transmission Support & Maintenance Engineer

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Transmission Planning & Support, the job holder will be responsible for Maintenance, Optimization and project management of reliable transmission systems / networks to support interconnection of core elements and major transmission hub sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Management of Transmission systems/network.
  • Planning and Management of Transmission equipment spares
  • Acceptance of installed transmission equipment from Vendors
  • Ensuring equipment space and power availability for planned systems.
  • Liaison with other department during service provisioning, site surveys and visits to ensure timely provisioning of required transport capacity.
  • Provisioning of required bandwidth/capacity for projects within core network and the regional departments.
  • Ensuring that accuracy and adherence to standards is observed throughout during equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Running of transmission/transport trials, equipment/systems parameters checks and evaluation and subsequent recommendations for approval and adoption of new equipment, systems and technologies into the network.
  • Participate in evaluating use of latest technologies to realize savings on CAPEX and NOPEX and to increase capacities.
Minimum requirements
  • Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Higher National Diploma in Electronics/Telecommunications
  • 5 years experience with 3 years specialized role in a busy telecommunications environment
  • Involved in installations /commissioning, operation and maintenance of major telecomm projects especially in the transmission field.
  • Excellent communication and motivational skills in line with the management of a multi skilled team
  • Knowledge in Pathloss or any other microwave design tool
  • Computer literate
  • Analytical skills
  • Attention to details
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Trouble shooting and problem solving skills
  • Scheduling of preventive maintenance activities
  • Project tracking and reporting
