The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has an opening for the position of Computer Management Assistant. The position will be available immediately.

Basic Function:
Under the supervision of the Computer Management Specialist (IT Advisor, Nairobi), the Computer Management Assistant (LAN) (Network Administrator) performs day to day administration of the local area network (LAN) environment and management of the network infrastructure. This position also manages the telephony network, Access Control System, CCTV, Video Conferencing System and the Wide Area Network (Motorola Radio Equipment) and facilitates hardware repairs in the workshop. The incumbent has primary responsibility for implementation of CDC network management and network security policies, cabling works and monitoring of the network equipment and applications.

Qualifications Required:
NOTE: All must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
  • Completion of high school is required. Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Electronics & Electrical Engineering is also required.
  • Five years of progressively responsible technical experience in network and communications administration and management with emphasis on an analytical approach to problem solving is required. To include at least 2 years hands on computer support staff for a medium sized office environment is also required.
  • Level IV (fluent) English ability is required and Level IV (fluent) Kiswahili ability also required.

Additional Selection Criteria:
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
