Lelan Highlands Dairies Ltd is a registered farmer owned company with over 2,500 farmers who are shareholders and also supplying milk to the chilling plant. It is located in Lelan, approximately 75 Kilometers from Kitale town, off Kapenguria-Lodwar road. Lelan has a very conducive weather but sometimes temperatures go to as low as 7 degrees Celsius.
The company currently procures chills, bulks and sells milk to a processor. The objective of Lelan Highland Dairies Limited is to improve the standard of living for their farmers and enhance their economic activities through access to market for their dairy produce. One of Lelan’s growth strategies has been to demonstrate the benefits of organizing farmers under the Milk Bulking Center.
This has led to improvement of milk quality, milk production and other milk related businesses such as the Financial Services Activity (FSA) and an Agrovet which also sells solar products. Owing to this growth, we are looking to appoint a key member of staff to perform the function of General Manager for our dairy business in Lelan
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a strong managerial background and track record in the dairy subsector, with a particular focus on managing a dairy enterprise through a milk chilling plant.
Responsibilities:
- Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of the company’s mission and vision. Specifically, support better management reporting, information flow business process and organizational planning.
- Oversee overall financial management, planning, systems and controls.
- Ensuring all departments operate efficiently, meeting both the farmers’ expectation of service and the companies’ expectation of profitability
- Establish an annual operations plan in support of all departments and in accordance with the overall strategic plan and growth objectives of the company to ensure the accomplishment of approved business plans
- Work with Production, Technical, Quality, Sales & Finance officers towards achieving the company’s objectives
- Encourage clear leadership responsibility regarding the creation and nurturing of a business environment in which “what gets measured gets managed”
- Maintain dedicated and cohesive focused teams with elevated expectations to meet current and future needs of our company
- Participate in planning required to achieve prescribed project and operational objectives capable of committing to and maintaining a project timeline
- A university graduate preferable with a degree preferably in business is preferred
- Knowledge of the dairy industry and trends in Kenya
- Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices.
- Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
- Specific experience working as a Manager in a dairy company will be a strong advantage
- Strong knowledge of technical, financing and legal/regulatory issues within the dairy industry
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
