The Authority is seeking to recruit qualified Kenyan citizens to fill the following positions:
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – EAST AFRICAN SCHOOL OF AVIATION
(REF: EASA/FD/01)
Department / Section: Finance (EASA)
Reports To: Registrar Finance and Administration
Job Purpose
To handle all accounting activities and to be responsible for the entire Finance functions at the East African School of Aviation
Scope of Work/Duties/Responsibilities
- Supervise the expenditure process at EASA to ensure that payment is done against goods and/ or services rendered;
- Maintain security procedures for cash and accountable documents including safe custody of the following records among others;
- Payment vouchers for each Financial Year.
- Receipt analysis for each Financial Year
- Students & Cashier banking slips
- All tax monthly & yearly returns documents
- All receipt books
- Coordinate all tax requirements at the School including weekly filling of withholding VAT returns;
- Reconcile monthly records for EASA Bank Accounts;
- Undertake Cost-Benefit analysis of all courses including those of collaborating institutions offered at EASA
- Prepare fee balance statements per student per course for management action;
- Prepare monthly management reports for EASA;
- Send students fees reminders periodically;
- Maintain control accounts and reconcile them to relevant ledger records. Investigate any variances arising out of these reconciliations;
- Respond to audit, supplier and management queries on matters relating to expenditure and revenue activities at EASA;
- Coordinate the preparation and revision of annual budget for EASA for incorporation into the Authority Annual Budgets;
- Ensure that expenditure does not exceed approved budgets-enforce strict budgetary control guided by quarterly budget allocations;
- Ensure safe custody of cash collected and adequate cash security procedures are in place and that all money collected is banked intact;
- Supervise the activities of subordinates, plan and implement staff training plans and address skills development and motivation issues relating to subordinates;
- Authorize all EASA payments;
- Carry out any other functional duties within your competence assigned by the office of Manager Finance
- A Bachelors Degree in Commerce (Accounting) or in relevant areas like Economics, or Business Administration from a recognized University.
- Professional Qualifications: Minimum of CPA (K) or equivalent
Experience
- At least three years in a busy accounting environment including supervisory functions.
Knowledge and skills
- Computer literate and practical knowledge of accounting information systems
- Broad-based accounting and financial knowledge as is required for a generalist accountant (ledger, revenue collection, accounts payables and budget planning)
- Detail oriented and accurate
- Communication skills to deal with auditors, suppliers, customers etc
