Assistant Officer - Direct Lending at Shelter-Afrique in Kenya

Shelter-Afrique is a regional Housing Finance Institution established by African governments and the African Development Bank dedicated to investment in housing and urban development in African countries.

The current shareholding comprises 44 African countries, the African Development Bank and the African Re-Insurance Corporation.

The institution, with its headquarters in Nairobi, would like to fill the following vacancy in its Business Development & Operations Department.

Assistant Officer Direct Lending

1.0 Overall Purpose

Directly responsible to the Investment Officer(s) Direct Lending for assisting in project appraisal for technical, financial, economic and legal viability.

Responsible for assisting customers to understand Shelter-Afrique products, services & processes necessary to access funding. Assist loan applicants who have difficulty qualifying for traditional loans.

2.0 Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carrying out private sector assessment studies on their financial, economic and investment climate.
  • Provide administrative support in the preparation of required material for officers to business development missions in assigned countries
  • Assist in collecting all necessary economic, financial and legal, marketing and technical information/data required to evaluate potential lending or equity projects.
  • Put together Documentation for the Preparation of appraisal reports and investment proposals for consideration by Management.
  • Processing of disbursements for approved loans and equity investments, making sure that project sponsors comply with all contractual obligations.
  • Analyze and verify applications to determine the client’s creditworthiness.
  • Understand and explain Direct loan programs and guidelines
  • Establish prosperous working relationships with referral sources
  • Assist in structuring loan program alternatives to match the borrower’s motivation
  • Develop and maintain appropriate database on borrowers, investors, governments, institutions and other collaborating agencies which will assist in the efficient management of the company’s clients and other related activities.

3.0 Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or related disciplines
  • Post qualification experience of 3 (Three) years in lending/ credit analysis

4.0 Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills and sound business judgment to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions
  • Enhanced communication skills.
  • Familiarity with construction projects formulation is an advantage
  • Ability to work as part of team
  • Ability to work in a multi cultural background and across boundaries
  • Information Technology skills, especially Microsoft Office
