Deputy Education Officer – Special Needs Education at The Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service at Kakuma Refugee Camp – Kenyan Jobs

The Lutheran World Federation / Department for World Service, Kakuma Refugee Assistance Project, is seeking to recruit qualified Kenyan nationals to the following positions to be based in Kakuma refugee camp.

DEPUTY EDUCATION OFFICER – SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATION

Initial 3 Months Contract with a high possibility of renewal in January 2012 based on performance and continued back donor Support. The holder of this position is responsible for assist the Education coordinator in management of the LWF supported special needs education program activities in Kakuma Refugee Camp. This program includes giving technical and administrative support to CWD mainstreamed in SNE Programs in 14 primary and 7 preschools in Kakuma camp and Special units for the Deaf, intellectually Challenges and the Blind along with mobilizing and creating awareness in the community to enhance access for CWD to education and other basic rights.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop short term and long term plans for the SNE Program activities and ensuring plans are implemented
  • Carry out regular monitoring and assessments of Special Education Activities and recommend actions on all findings
  • Provide supervision, guidance and capacity building to SNE staff
  • Write and submit reports on SNE related activities to the Education Coordinator.
  • Plan for the procurement and distribution of the special needs education materials
  • Represent the Education sector in special education related forums,
  • Work closely with regular teachers handling SNE children in the regular schools
  • Advocacy and liaison with other stakeholders and community mobilizes in the care for CWD.
Professional Qualifications:
  • At least Diploma in Special Needs Education Training but preferably Bachelors Degree from a recognized educational institution.
  • At least three years of progressive working experience in a management or supervisory role in the field of Special Needs Education programs. Experience gained in an NGO setting will be an added advantage.
  • Proven knowledge and hands-on experience in dealing with varied disabilities in the field of Education and or referral.
  • Conversant with methodologies of inclusive education and designing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • High level of Integrity, interpersonal skills, teamwork and ability to work in a workplace with cultural and religious diversity.
